Summary for the CAFSA, KAFSA
and JAFSA President Meeting

(Beijing, China, 2006-12-16) 

 1. Chinese Association of Universities and Colleges for Foreign Student Affairs (CAFSA), Korean Association of Foreign Student Administrators (KAFSA) and Japanese Association for Foreign Student Affairs (JAFSA) (hereinafter referred to as the three parties) held a President Meeting on December 16, 2006, in Beijing. Madame Zhang Xiuqin, President of CAFSA; Dr. Doo-Hee LEE, President of KAFSA and Dr. George R. Harada, Representative of JAFSA, attended the meeting. 

 2. The three parties reviewed the 2000, 2001 and 2002 president meeting held in China, Korea and Japan respectively. Convinced of the positive outcomes achieved in educational exchanges and collaboration among the three countries ever since 2000, the three parties agree that it is necessary to hold president meetings among the three parties. 

 3. The three parties agree that the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the 2000 CAFSA, KAFSA and JAFSA President Meeting has served as a foundation for the educational exchange and cooperation among the three countries. As a guideline, the MOU still serves the needs of education cooperation and exchanges among the three countries in the coming years. 

 4. In order to promote exchange and cooperation among the three counties, the three parties have herein reached consensus at the following points: 

   (1) The three parties agree that the president meeting should be held annually. 

   (2) The three parties will present a session at Asian-Pacific Association of International Education (APAIE) conference. 

   (3) The three parties agree that seminars and academic conferences on international students’ education, gathering pertinent professionals from higher institutions of the three countries, are beneficial to the management and development of the field. It was agreed upon that, for such seminars or conferences held in any of the three countries, attendees form the other two countries would also be welcomed, and the registration fees of up to five people from each country can be waived. 

   (4) The three parties would cooperatively organize seminars and academic conferences. JAFSA will consider to host the next seminar in Japan in 2008. 

   (5) The three parties agree to raise fund to continue the ongoing short-term exchange visits among the international educators in Korea, Japan and China.

 5. The three parties agree that the president meeting for CAFSA, KAFSA and JAFSA is an important platform for collaborations and communications; the three parties express satisfaction to the achievements made during this meeting.
